FLOATING WEEDS

1959 | DIRECTED BY YASUJIRO OZU

Ozu is the true, unsurpassed master of the frame.

It’s a privilege to see the world through his viewfinder. Every other shot is a still you want to hang on your wall and admire for the rest of your life.

Not even halfway through I started getting beauty fatigue at the sheer amount of visual perfection cutting across the screen. It’s too much to process in one sitting or probably ten.

There’s a lot to unpack here thematically: family, love, class, art. But I still can’t even get past how good the stained glass looks.

Eye candy of the very highest caliber.
