THE FIRM

1989 | DIRECTED BY ALAN CLARKE

Exhibit A why guys-being-dudes belongs in the DSM. And I say that lovingly, like getting a rabid dog the help it needs.

Watching scene after scene of these “football hooligans” — because apparently that’s like an organized thing in not-so-Great Britain — screaming at one another and themselves and women and no one in particular I kept thinking to myself how stupid it is that men manufacture reasons to get heated over literally nothing.

Oldman’s Bexy says he “needs the buzz.” His wife astutely recommends he buy a beehive. Maybe he’d be alive if he’d taken her advice instead of being blown away by that guy who looks like if Elliott Smith and Gary Busey had a baby.

Also shoutout to Cockney Tony Soprano sitting in a lawn chair sipping a brew telling his son to go fuck up the fucks who fucked up his car (I might be paraphrasing).

And so we see how lad culture is passed down from generation to generation.

PS: No I am not gay nor PC nor a soy boy I just don’t get my gender sometimes especially in the British idiom.
